Macklemore launches Free Palestine tour after Ed Sheeran dropped him
Macklemore announced a Free Palestine tour in Europe after being removed from Ed Sheeran's US dates.
Rapper Macklemore announced his own tour after Messina Touring Group dropped him from Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour. Macklemore had made several onstage comments supporting Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
This led to accusations of antisemitism and calls for his removal. Macklemore said his "schedule freed up a bit" and will perform in Dublin, London and Paris next month.
He wrote on Instagram: "When the billionaire class can decide which voices are allowed on stage and which ones are too dangerous to hear, everyone should be paying attention." Sheeran's other opening acts and house band dropped out in support of Macklemore.
All proceeds from the tour will support Palestinian organizations. Sheeran said the decision was his promoters', not his own.
He told a Philadelphia crowd he did not want to be an activist musician.
