Perth DJ Andrei Maz dies at 55
DJ Andrei Maz died after an eight-week battle with gallbladder cancer.
Andrei Mazandarani, 55, passed away in hospital in Perth on Monday night following a rapid decline from gallbladder cancer discovered in July. Andrei Mazandarani and his brother Anton ran Death Disco at Amplifier Bar and Capitol from 2007 to 2019, hosting 620 consecutive Saturday nights that became a cornerstone of Perth's dance music scene.
Anton told 7NEWS the decline was brutal: from feeling well to bed-ridden in excruciating pain within weeks. Andrei had also lived with Crohn's disease since his early 20s, but remained stoic throughout.
He leaves behind his wife and two children. The Perth music community has been mourning the loss of a beloved fixture who had the gift of reading any dance floor.
