Frontier Wars plaque removed from WWI memorial, sparks debate
A plaque commemorating the Frontier Wars was placed on a WWI memorial without permission, then removed, leaving damage and debate.
Someone placed a plaque reading "Lest We Forget The Frontier Wars 1788" on the Dudley War Memorial in Lake Macquarie without permission. The plaque was later removed, but it left residue and damage on the monument that will require repairs.
The war memorial's secretary said the committee backed the message but objected to using the WWI memorial as the spot. Gary Clement said: "It was the wrong place for it."
"We've got no problem with what was on the plaque, just the application." The committee at first thought about moving the plaque to a garden on the site, but someone else took it off before that could happen.
