Four AFLW coaching jobs open after Wright leaves Collingwood
Sam Wright's departure from Collingwood leaves four AFLW coaching vacancies across four clubs seeking new senior coaches.
Collingwood's Sam Wright stepping down has opened four senior AFLW coaching positions. Essendon, St Kilda, Tasmania (seeking its inaugural coach), and Collingwood are all recruiting.
A pool of experienced assistant coaches now has genuine opportunity; many have spent at least four AFLW seasons learning the craft. Contenders include Steph Binder (Hawthorn assistant with head coaching experience), Matt Brewer (St Kilda interim coach with three matches under his belt), Ben Brown (Essendon assistant and former AFL player), Courtney Cramey (Adelaide assistant, former Crows premiership player and state captain), and others from across the competition.
Some recently retired players, like Emma Kearney and Chelsea Randall, both premiership captains, are considering the jump from playing to senior coaching. Others, such as Scott Gowans (who built North Melbourne and Sydney's inaugural programs) and Paul Groves (Williamstown VFLW coach and 2018 Western Bulldogs premiership coach), are also in the mix.
