Smart revives tiny electric ForTwo with 289km range
Smart's new #2 electric hatchback, successor to the iconic ForTwo, launches in the UK in 2027 and could return to Australia.
The Smart #2, pronounced Hashtag Two, is a two-seat electric hatchback on a new electric-only platform, roughly 250mm longer, 250mm wider and 55mm taller than the original ForTwo. The Smart #2 measures 2,746mm long with a 35.8kWh lithium iron phosphate battery delivering 289km of range.
DC fast-charging fills it from 10 to 80 per cent in 20 minutes. The motor produces 60kW, and it weighs 1,140kg.
Smart painted a mural of the #2 in Melbourne in August, signalling Australia might be at least on the brand's radar, though no official launch date has been confirmed. Smart stopped selling the original ForTwo locally in 2015 but returned to Australia in 2024 with electric SUVs.
The #2 would compete with compact EV rivals like the Hyundai Inster and BYD Atto 1.
