First Nations fashion runway debuts at National Museum
On October 17, Kultural Dreaming Capital Runway showcases more than 30 models and 13 Indigenous designers at Canberra's first First Nations fashion event.
The National Museum of Australia will host the event, organized by Kathleen Bolt, Jahna Lugnan and Kristie Peters. More than 30 models will showcase work from local and national Indigenous designers, featuring casual wear to wearable art and couture.
Organisers say this is the first event of its kind for Canberra. The runway will spotlight Ngunnawal-country based designers who rarely get recognition.
Bolt and Lugnan have supported models and designers since 2021, helping community members reach goals like Australian Fashion Week acceptance, including funding for travel and accommodation.
