NT government contradicts itself over dialysis patients as YiSSA closure nears
NT officials explored dialysis in Batchelor, contradicting the minister's promise not to move patients there.
The NT government said dialysis patients would stay at Darwin services as YiSSA closes October 11. Emails show a senior health official asked Purple House about treating patients in Batchelor, 100 kilometres away, less than a week before the closure.
Purple House rejected the plan, citing staffing limits and risks to vulnerable patients far from hospitals. The health worker said the advice "will help inform our planning", but the government has not said if dialysis patients will move to Batchelor or how many need new housing.
YiSSA currently houses homeless residents, families fleeing violence, and people on medical treatment.
