Two Latvian men arrested at RAF Molesworth under UK security law
Counter-terrorism police arrested two men, aged 32 and 36, inside an RAF base after finding a fence breach.
UK counter-terrorism police arrested two Latvian men inside RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire early Thursday. A security patrol had discovered an abandoned vehicle.
A small breach in the perimeter fence was also found. The men were aged 32 and 36.
They were first held on suspicion of trespassing and criminal damage. Then they were re-arrested under the National Security Act 2023.
The new charge: entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the UK. Police said nothing so far suggests the arrest links to a separate suspected plot to attack RAF Fairford, another air base 145 kilometres west of London.
The government has linked that plot to Iran. An abandoned vehicle at Molesworth was checked by bomb disposal officers.
Nothing of concern was found. Investigators are also searching addresses in Peterborough.
