Delivery rider Jianming Feng killed in Melbourne CBD stabbing

A 47-year-old delivery rider was killed in Melbourne's CBD after confronting someone tampering with his bike.

Jianming Feng was killed while working as a delivery rider in Melbourne's CBD on Friday night. Jianming Feng and a second rider confronted a man they caught tampering with their bikes near the Queen Victoria Market.

An altercation broke out, and Feng was stabbed near the Chongqing Chicken Pot City restaurant. Jianming Feng died at the scene despite CPR.

A second rider, aged 34, was also stabbed but survived with non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. A 51-year-old Footscray man was arrested on Saturday morning and remains in custody.

The Australian Emergency Mutual Aid Association quickly located Feng's family in China and offered support. Witnesses described Feng as hardworking and gentle.

He was a father of two on a working holiday visa. The stabbing has renewed calls for better protection of delivery riders, who witnesses say face frequent harassment and assault in the CBD.
