Gateshead health hub plans open to public on 10-storey building zone
Gateshead's hospital site can now build up to 10 storeys across the whole area, not just one end.
The council wants public feedback on a plan. The plan would turn Gateshead into a regional health hub based on Lake Macquarie Private Hospital.
The plan extends the 10-storey height limit across the entire hospital site. Before, it only applied to the northern end.
Land to the south, between Sydney and Hughes streets, would allow buildings up to 10 storeys. Nearby areas would permit three to eight storeys.
The zoning changes aim to attract more medical services, shops, housing and accommodation for patients and health workers. The expansion includes a $45 million six-storey hospital extension already approved, plus a $120 million 10-storey tower that was already approved.
