Queensland man searches Canberra streets for brother missing four years

Chris Centea searched Canberra for his brother Claude, missing four years, to tell him their father died in August.

Chris Centea drove from Queensland to Canberra early Wednesday and spent the next three nights searching under bridges, through alleyways, and around libraries, looking for his older brother Claude. The two haven't seen each other in eight years.

Niculae, their father, died of a heart attack on August 23, and Chris wants to tell Claude the news. Claude, now 49, moved to Canberra a few years ago after living in Sydney and Newcastle.

He has struggled with drug use and homelessness, and had a recorded run-in with NSW Police in 2019 during a drug-induced episode. Some locals told Chris they recalled seeing Claude only a few years ago near the Queanbeyan Showground and in Braidwood.

Chris, 36, still keeps the black baseball cap Claude gave him before leaving home. He says he is tired and emotionally drained but hopeful, and plans to return to Canberra to keep searching.
