Canberra's Downsizing With Care says it can clear a home in a week or two

People decide what is sentimental, then Downsizing With Care's team of six women clears the rest.

Garrick Smith and his husband, Robert McKenzie, left their four-bedroom Dunlop home after 16 years. The house was full of photographs, books, homewares, two wardrobes and Robert's 55 pairs of shoes.

A Canberra service called Downsizing With Care helped the couple sort through it. Melissa Freasier has run the business for about 10 years, and her first client was her own mother.

Freasier's team of six women mostly serves older customers. Swedish death cleaning means clearing out early to spare loved ones, and it is a necessity for most of her clients.

Freasier says people make the big calls about what is sentimental, and her team clears the rest. Sometimes families who clear a deceased estate alone can be caught up for years, she says.

Freasier's team can be in and out in a week or two.
