Oscar Allen won't touch the Grand Final cup until he wins a premiership, following advice from Mark LeCras.
Oscar Allen missed West Coast's 2018 grand final when defender Jeremy McGovern played through broken ribs in his place. Now at Brisbane in his first season, the 27-year-old forward is assured of his spot for this weekend's decider.
Allen has adopted a superstition from LeCras, his childhood idol: never touch the cup until you have won one. LeCras missed out on West Coast's 2006 flag but featured in the 2018 premiership, and made the same vow to himself.
Allen missed three months this season with a foot injury but returned for round 21 and has played every game since. He says the club's rehab program gave him enough time to build form and confidence before the finals.
