BrainChip, a Sydney tech company, designed an AI chip that copies how the human brain works. Unlike competitors chasing raw power, the chip stays dormant until it senses something-sight, sound, or touch-then springs to life.
The chip keeps power use below one watt. One medical company embedded it in glasses to track eye movement and predict epileptic seizures an hour before they happen with 98 per cent accuracy.
CEO Sean Hehir says this lets people with epilepsy drive safely again. The chip also works offline, making it attractive to defence: networks can fail in conflict, so processing data locally matters.
BrainChip lost $17 million in the half year to June 30 and was trading about 13.5 cents on Friday.
