Koby LeCras tears ACL on WAFL debut day, wiping out his draft year
Koby LeCras tore his ACL on debut day, wiping out his draft year.
Koby LeCras made his WAFL debut on his 18th birthday in April. He wore the same number his father wore for West Perth in 141 games.
This was at the ground where he grew up. Late in the match, he tore his ACL.
It was not severe enough to need surgery, but it ended his season. LeCras, nephew of West Coast premiership star Mark LeCras, had earned All-Australian honours at under-16 level.
AFL clubs had tracked him. Koby LeCras spent the rest of the year rehabbing and learning from the sideline.
He attended every training session, worked with West Perth's physio and prepared for the AFL Combine in September. He wanted to show recruiters his commitment and fitness.
- April, his 18th birthday
- Debut date
- 141 games for West Perth
- Father's games
- All-Australian selection in 2024
- U16 honour
Why it mattersLeCras was a genuine prospect heading into his draft year; the injury and lost game time make his path to AFL harder but not impossible, hinging on how clubs value his character and rehab discipline.
