New Zealand reaches Rugby League World Cup final after beating Tonga
New Zealand defeated Tonga to reach their first World Cup final since 2013.
The Kiwis trailed at half-time in what looked like a genuine upset in the making. Tonga, strengthened by top players switching from New Zealand, had scored two tries through Jojo Fifita to lead the semi-final.
New Zealand dominated the second half. As conditions worsened, the Kiwis' kicking game took over.
Kalyn Ponga, returning from a broken forearm, helped set up tries and Dane Gagai crossed before the break. From there, New Zealand scored 22 unanswered points to seal it.
They will face Australia or Samoa in next weekend's final. New Zealand have not won the World Cup since 2008.
