Director rejects Jaws model, says audiences will love the giant whale
Director Brian Duffield says Whalefall makes the whale the film's hero, building audience love for the creature.
At the Los Angeles premiere, director Brian Duffield explained why his approach to Whalefall differs from Jaws. Duffield told reporters: "We really love the whale and he's the good guy in this movie.
I think it's really important that you leave this movie loving our whale and loving whales in general." The film stars Austin Abrams as a scuba diver trapped inside the whale's stomach while searching for his father's remains.
Duffield said the goal was for audiences to leave fond of whales, not fearful of them.
