EA shut down BioWare and cancelled its next Mass Effect game after a leaked trailer revealed the project's existence.
BioWare, the legendary studio behind Mass Effect, shut down yesterday. With it went an unannounced next game in the franchise - Mass Effect: Universe.
A leaked trailer emerged today showing what the cancelled game could have been. The roughly two-minute clip showed an ex-military N7 officer meeting aliens in a bar, with action sequences and glimpses of the game's universe.
EA had kept the project under wraps, telling staff there was only "a small team at BioWare working on early development." Two renowned sci-fi authors - Catherynne M. Valente and Derek Kunsken - revealed today they had been writing for the game for years.
The Mass Effect TV series for Prime Video remains in development. Fans have launched a petition urging EA to continue the game or license it to another studio.
