Four officers rescue man wedged in rocks off Newcastle breakwall
Senior Constable James Elias and Constables Hannah Raspoort, Marcus Cavallaro-Laverty and Maddison Hilton rescued an injured man. It happened at Nobbys breakwall on Good Friday.
A man was washed off Nobbys breakwall after powerful waves swamped him and his wife during dangerous surf on April 18. The injured man became wedged between rocks with serious injuries.
The four officers arrived within minutes and worked with Surf Life Saving crews. Together they located and reached him safely while waves continued crashing over the platform.
The officers timed their movements between surges and kept watch. Paramedics and rescue crews brought him to safety.
The officers were recognised at a NSW Police district awards ceremony this week.
