On October 4, a man mustering in the area discovered the car abandoned in a dry floodway about 1km off the road near Stonehenge in Central West Queensland. Police say the Honda shows flood damage and had not moved for some time.
Trethewey's family and police hold concerns for his welfare and have launched a search and rescue operation. The discovery comes after the area was hit by major flooding since he vanished.
The Thomson River at Stonehenge reached 7.40 metres during the March-April 2025 floods, surpassing the previous peak of 6.88 metres recorded in 1974. It remains unclear whether the vehicle was already in the floodway when waters rose or if the flooding caused the damage.
