Robinvale Tongan dancers debut at major Melbourne cultural showcase
Twenty-four Tongan-Australian students from regional Victoria performed at a major cultural showcase in Melbourne.
Students from Robinvale Secondary College travelled eight hours to perform at the Cultivating Creative Cultures (4Cs) Showcase. Si'i Kae Hā was the first regional Victorian group to perform at the 20-year-old showcase.
The students belong to Si'i Kae Hā, a Tongan dance group established in 2023. Many students were born in Australia and are reconnecting with Tongan culture and language through dance.
School staff members grew up in Robinvale learning from Tongan elders. They established the group to preserve cultural traditions for the next generation.
