Sydney night stalker faces court three decades after knife attacks on eight women

Glenn Gary Cameron faced sentencing for eight 1991-93 sexual assaults, arrested through forensic breakthroughs more than three decades after the crimes.

Cameron attacked eight women around Moore Park and the inner west between 1991 and 1993, using knives to threaten and control them. Glenn Gary Cameron evaded police and kept his identity secret for three decades.

Forensic breakthroughs led to his arrest at Sydney airport in February 2024. On Monday, one victim told the court how the assault left her unable to relax, describing herself as constantly terrified.

She said a part of her died that night. Cameron broke down in tears and called himself a coward for not coming forward earlier.

The judge was sceptical of arguments that his childhood trauma reduced his responsibility.

Why it mattersThe case shows how forensic breakthroughs can solve long-cold violent crimes and finally let survivors see their attacker held accountable.

AustraliaThe case highlights forensic progress in NSW investigations and brings justice to Sydney victims after decades of carrying trauma.
