Coalition pledges $115m to duplicate Dyson Drive through Alfredton

State Opposition leader Jess Wilson announced Dyson Drive will be doubled to four lanes if elected in November.

More than 10,000 vehicles use Dyson Drive daily between Remembrance Drive and Ballarat-Carngham Road. Traffic in the area surged 60 per cent between 2016 and 2021.

More than 1,100 homes have been built in nearby Lucas and Cardigan since then. State Opposition leader Jess Wilson announced the duplication plan at an October 28 event in Lucas.

The opposition put the project cost at $115.1 million. This is about $26 million more than the City of Ballarat's estimate.

Local MP Martha Haylett said that duplicating Dyson Drive alone would not solve the problem. She argued that without fixing Ballarat-Carngham Road, it would just move the traffic jam.

Why it mattersThe duplication could ease severe congestion during morning, school pick-up and evening peak times. This would help thousands of Ballarat residents.

AustraliaIf the Coalition wins the November Victorian election, Ballarat commuters in Lucas and Alfredton could see construction begin on the road widening within the first term.
