James McDonald guides Stormy Marco to Victoria Derby win

Stormy Marco won the Group 1 Victoria Derby at Flemington under jockey James McDonald in commanding fashion.

Stormy Marco burst clear on the home straight to claim the Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington on Saturday. The Chris Waller-trained colt started from an outside barrier.

James McDonald steered him through the field to win with ease. Cold Shower finished second, ahead of Quick Finish in third.

McDonald said the race unfolded perfectly. He compared the ride to his victory on Verry Elleegant.

The win shows McDonald's continued strength at Melbourne's spring racing carnival.
