Havertz breaks 14-year Arsenal curse at Anfield with first-half goal
Kai Havertz's 16th-minute goal gave Arsenal their first win at Anfield since 2012, moving them above Manchester City.
Havertz slotted home after Declan Rice sent a low cross in the 16th minute. The win was Arsenal's first at Anfield since 2012 and broke Liverpool's five-game winning streak.
Arsenal are now top of the Premier League with eight victories, while Liverpool are fifth, nine points back. Arsenal have kept six clean sheets in their last nine games, and Liverpool mustered no shots on target all match.
Havertz became the all-time leading German scorer in the Premier League with 46 goals, one more than former Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan. The result came five days after Arsenal were knocked out of the League Cup by fourth-tier Fleetwood.
Manager Mikel Arteta said: "This is the magical thing about football. It's so unpredictable."
