Yaka trades wheels for bricks in Braddon, expands Sri Lankan menu
Popular Sri Lankan food truck Yaka has moved to a permanent Braddon location with an expanded menu and larger kitchen.
Yaka on Wheels has moved upstairs to 72/30 Lonsdale Street, Braddon, just down the road from its former carpark home at Waves Carwash. Demand for spicy Sri Lankan food drove the expansion.
The new space has indoor and outdoor seating. Pamoda de Silva, co-owner and interior architect, designed a colourful fit-out.
Chef and co-owner Dananjaya Polgolla now has a larger kitchen. The menu has expanded beyond their famous kottus.
New dishes include lamprais, a banana-leaf parcel with curry, eggplant pickle, crispy fish cutlet, caramelised onion and boiled egg on ghee rice. The isso wade is a crispy lentil fritter topped with fried prawn and a sweet-tart-spicy hakuru BBQ sauce.
Popular items like butter squid and kottus remain.
