Bavuma's 179 and Jansen's power rescue South Africa from rout
Temba Bavuma scored a career-best 179 to lead South Africa's recovery from 6-110.
Bavuma batted through a hamstring strain and tiredness to anchor South Africa's comeback against Australia in the second Test at Gqeberha. Bavuma reached 179 from 334 balls, the longest South African innings against Australia since the country returned to international cricket.
Jansen hit 85 off 100 balls in a 132-run stand. Harmer added 82 in a record eighth-wicket partnership of 183 runs.
Australia's fast bowlers tired in the fading light and couldn't press home their advantage. Nic Maddinson fell for a duck in Rabada's first over back after six months out, leaving Australia frustrated as South Africa declared and blocked any path to series victory.
