CBA share price falls to $166 as stock pickers spot bargains
Commonwealth Bank shares down 10% to $166.72 amid broader market slump; investors see value.
Australia's share market has stumbled badly in 2026. The ASX Small Ordinaries Index has fallen 16.5 per cent, while the flagship ASX 200 is up just 2.2 per cent, trailing inflation, which has topped 4 per cent.
Investment strategist Jessica Amir argues the slide in Commonwealth Bank shares creates a rare chance to buy a dependable dividend payer. CBA fell from an April high above $185 to $166.72 by November 2.
The bank has historically recovered from major crashes and hit new record highs. Amir points out that passive investment funds are structurally required to keep holding CBA shares, which provides natural buying support.
Portfolio manager Emmanuel Datt sees similar opportunity in consumer credit company Zip Co, which crashed after a fraud warning but continues growing strongly in the US market.
