Russia's attacks spread beyond Ukraine into NATO country

A drone strike on a Turkish civilian ship in Romania's Black Sea zone killed two, marking the latest incursion into NATO territory.

A drone hit a Turkish-owned vessel carrying corn in neutral waters off Romania's coast on Monday. The ship caught fire and sank.

Two crew members died and 11 were rescued. The attack source has not been confirmed, but it follows a pattern of strikes creeping into NATO countries.

Romania intercepted three Russian drones in July, forcing officials to summon Russia's ambassador. Moldova reported five Russian air weapons violated its airspace recently.

Ukraine's President Zelensky said pressure is needed to restore global food security in the Black Sea region. The expanding strikes have raised concerns among NATO members about whether an attack on one member could trigger Article 5, obligating all 32 members to assist in collective defence.
