Helen Haines spoke of pride and change two days before attack

Just two days before an alleged attack, Indi MP Helen Haines spoke proudly about representing the region.

Helen Haines is the independent MP for Indi. On Saturday, October 17, she spoke to more than 150 supporters.

Haines reflected on seven years representing the regional Victorian seat. Helen Haines spoke about the "Indi way", listening to communities and rejecting the ways of major parties.

"I feel so proud and so privileged to represent you," she said. She added that the responsibility comes with laughs but also deep seriousness.

Haines highlighted recent wins. Federal funding will repair bushfire-damaged bridges.

She also got a report on a $9 billion gap in regional health spending that she took to the Prime Minister. She reflected on the 2012 meetings at Wangaratta Library.

These meetings planted seeds for change. They led to Cathy McGowan becoming the first independent to hold Indi in 2013.
