Christchurch stadium at Floriade takes just two flower beds
A mock-up shows the proposed stadium would occupy some car park and just a couple of Floriade garden beds.
Canberra Airport chief Stephen Byron laid out exactly where a new Christchurch stadium would fit next to Lake Burley Griffin. The stadium would claim part of the Regatta Place car park and edge right up to Floriade's eastern boundary.
Only a bed or two of the flower display would be affected. The stadium would sit on top of the hill above where the government plans an aquatic centre, so the water facility would sit between the stadium and the lake.
Byron said the complex could actually enhance Floriade's visitor experience.
