Porsche bets on permanent petrol supercar as EV sales slip

The Mission S is Porsche's permanent petrol hypercar positioned above the 911, not a limited edition.

Porsche chairman Michael Leiters showed the mid-engined Mission S concept in New York. The Mission S is positioned as a full-time model, not a one-off like past flagships.

The hypercar uses only a petrol engine. The shift to petrol comes after slower-than-expected electric car sales in 2025.

The design draws ideas from classic Porsche models like the 550 Spyder, Carrera GT, and 918 Spyder. Inside, it moves away from heavy digital controls.

It uses analogue dials and a smartphone mount instead of touchscreens. The timing and Australian availability have not been confirmed.
