Suns copped $10K suspended fine for concussion protocol breach
Gold Coast received a $10,000 suspended fine after incorrectly allowing Dekota Baron to return to play following a concussion check.
Dekota Baron was cleared by Gold Coast's medical team after a head knock in the first quarter of an AFLW match against Richmond last Saturday. The ARC (match review team) overruled that decision and pulled the 19-year-old forward from the field.
A breakdown in communication meant Baron was sent back on despite not being rechecked by the ARC. The AFL issued the fine for failing to follow its concussion guidelines.
Gold Coast accepted the decision, noting it was a process failure. Baron is now in concussion protocols ahead of the next round.
