Matt Renshaw: missing the Ashes opened path to Test recall
By missing the Ashes, Renshaw freed up time to develop across formats and earn Test recall.
Matthew Renshaw was devastated to miss the Ashes last summer when Jake Weatherald got the opening slot. Renshaw learned the setback worked in his favour.
The Queensland opener made a Big Bash hundred, was picked for the T20 World Cup squad, and made his ODI debut. Renshaw scored a century against Zimbabwe last month.
Weatherald was dropped after two low scores against Bangladesh, and Renshaw was recalled for the second Test in Mackay. Renshaw tells the Unplayable Podcast that missing the Ashes freed up his domestic schedule, which helped him reach Australia's white-ball squads.
