Trump pressured UK to open North Sea oil for two years, Burnham confirms
Trump says he pushed the UK for two years to open North Sea oil; the Jackdaw gas field was approved.
US President Donald Trump told reporters he has pushed the UK for two years to unlock North Sea oil. During a talk with Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Trump said the newly approved Jackdaw gas field would make Britain "a very rich country."
Burnham's office confirmed both leaders agreed the project would bring "significant benefits." The two also discussed Ukraine, where Burnham stressed the need for continued Starlink access for Kyiv's defence.
The two also discussed the Falkland Islands and Argentina's opposition to oil exploration there. A larger Rosebank oilfield remains under consideration.

Why it mattersTrump's public pressure on UK energy policy shows how foreign leaders shape each other's resource decisions. The approvals may shift European energy away from renewables.
AustraliaNo direct effect on Australia yet. However, if North Sea oil expansion reduces global supply and raises prices, Australian fuel costs and energy exports could be affected.
