Harry and Meghan end California chapter, relocating to UK
Prince Harry and Meghan have announced plans to relocate back to Britain after six years in the United States.
The couple left royal life in January 2020. They said they wanted to escape royal restrictions and press criticism.
They also said the palace did not care enough about Meghan's mental health. Meghan has spoken about struggling with suicidal thoughts during pregnancy.
Historians have compared their story to King Edward VIII. In 1936, Edward gave up the throne after just 325 days to marry Wallis Simpson, an American.
Simpson was twice-divorced. The British royal family and church opposed the marriage.
Edward was made a duke and exiled to France and the US. He died in Paris in 1972.
Harry is different: he has kept his place in line to the throne. He is fifth in line.
Why it mattersThe couple's return could reshape how the royal family and British public see them after years apart and legal disputes.
