Powderfinger reuniting after 16 years, kids were the reason
Brisbane rock band Powderfinger is reuniting after 16 years, driven by their children who never saw them perform live.
Powderfinger announced their reunion this month after 16 years apart. The band had spent about 15 months quietly planning the comeback in secret.
Frontman Bernard Fanning said only 10 people knew about it. The band used a fake WhatsApp group called The Return of the Electric Horsemen to discuss plans.
Fanning admitted he was desperate to tell people but managed to keep it quiet. The band has 13 children between them.
Many never saw their fathers at the height of Powderfinger's success. Bassist John "JC" Collins said his twins were six and his youngest was three when talks began.
Cryptic billboards across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in early October sparked guessing among fans. Fans cracked the code faster than expected.
This forced the band to announce sooner than planned. The group will begin rehearsals in December.
