Eight million Australians eligible to claim refunds in JB Hi-Fi warranty lawsuit
JB Hi-Fi faces a court case over selling warranties that offered no extra protection compared to free legal rights.
A class action claims JB Hi-Fi sold extended warranties on TVs, fridges, laptops and phones. The extended warranties gave no extra protection beyond what Australian consumer law already gives.
The retailer called them extended care or extra care. The lawsuit says they were worthless and had no real extra cover.
JB Hi-Fi firmly denies the claims of misleading conduct. Anyone who bought an extended warranty between January 2011 and December 2023 is automatically part of the class action.
If successful, up to eight million Australians could be eligible for compensation. Harvey Norman may also face similar action depending on this case's outcome.
