Two Nigerian chefs open Unique African Restaurant in Canberra to make African cuisine accessible and tell untold African stories.
Sylverline Uzomanze and Promise Okwuchukwu met in Canberra and cooked at local multicultural events before deciding to open a restaurant. Sylverline and Promise wanted to fill a gap.
African food is not well served in Canberra, but people love it. The menu features West African classics like jollof rice, pepper soup, suya beef skewers and puff-puff doughnuts.
The restaurant also plans monthly buffets so people can try many dishes. The pair sees food as a bridge to culture and storytelling.
They offer a space where people learn about Africa while sharing meals.
