Yemen civil war: video shows forces driving over Houthi fighters

Verified video shows Yemeni forces driving vehicles over Houthi fighters.

Video released by Yemeni government forces shows armoured vehicles deliberately driving over Houthi fighters as they recapture territory near the critical Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Reuters verified the footage, filmed from inside the vehicles.

Some fighters were armed; others were unarmed, sitting or crouching on the shore and made no attempt to flee. The Houthis accused the forces of war crimes.

The Giants Brigade, the main government unit involved, said it was investigating. The Saudi-led coalition backing the government did not immediately respond.

Both sides have been accused of violations; the Houthis deny war crimes charges. The fighting marks a new, brutal phase of Yemen's conflict and follows the Houthi advance in September that disrupted global shipping and pushed up fuel prices worldwide.
