Americans over 75 now the richest age group as young adults fall behind
Americans aged 75-plus now hold the most wealth. Older generations have seen gains while younger families fall behind.
The oldest Americans are now the wealthiest age group in the US, according to the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances. People aged 75 and older saw big gains, with their median net worth rising from $367,000 in 2022 to $505,000 by 2025.
Rising stock markets and home values drove most of this growth. Families under 35 saw their median net worth drop to $33,000 over the same three years.
The stock market gained roughly 52 per cent during that time. This helped older Americans who own more stocks and property.
Education matters. Families where the head earned a degree had almost 3 times the median net worth of those without one.
Rising home values and stock gains have helped older, educated Americans who hold more assets and investments.
