Toyota funds free AI classes for regional high school students
Toyota Community Trust supports Australia's first major AI education program for low-income regional high school students starting in 2027.
About 900 regional high school students from NSW, Victoria and Queensland will join the program next year. Toyota Community Trust will fund free in-school workshops on artificial intelligence for these students.
The Toyota AI Literacy Lab is run by the Australian School of Entrepreneurship. It targets students from low-income backgrounds.
These students might otherwise miss out on tech training. ASE chief Jahin Tanvir said AI literacy is now as important as reading and writing.
Students will get practical experience with AI tools. They will learn skills that help them choose careers in science, technology, engineering and maths.
The program also aims to help more regional students finish school. It wants more of them to study STEM subjects after that.
