Greens and One Nation unite against Tungkillo data centre plan
Ideological opposites stood together at a Mannum rally to oppose Quantum DC's hyper-scale data centre in Tungkillo, roughly 40km east of Adelaide.
Data centres have become so political that the Greens and One Nation stood side by side to fight the Tungkillo proposal. The Liberals and independent MP Rebekha Sharkie joined them.
Concerns centre on energy use, water demand and loss of prime farm land. Quantum DC, the Melbourne developer, has already had trouble with community talks.
Labor introduced new laws demanding tougher energy and water rules, with Premier Peter Malinauskas saying: "if they're not in our interests, they're not happening". But the government faces pressure from both sides: the Greens and One Nation say Labor is "rolling out the red carpet" for data centres, while the Coalition wants locals to have a real say.
Quantum DC has not yet lodged a formal planning application.

Why it mattersData centre politics now span left and right, signalling that backing such projects could cost Labor votes in marginal seats before the next state election.
AustraliaSouth Australia voters in regional seats will likely hear this dispute intensify as Labor negotiates data centre laws through parliament, where it lacks a majority.
