SA MP receives threatening messages on balloons with powder
Labor MP Jayne Stinson found threatening, sexist messages scrawled on balloons at her office, with at least one containing powder.
Staff at MP Jayne Stinson's Plympton office arrived to find balloons outside and in the car park, but at first they thought they were birthday gifts. The messages included threats to the MP's safety and sexist abuse.
One balloon held powder. When an employee popped it while cleaning up, they got covered in powder and became very frightened.
Several balloons had the words "stop the chop" written on them. This phrase comes from a campaign against government projects in South Australia's parklands.
Police arrived and are investigating. No injuries or damage were reported.
Police said threats to elected officials are rising and that threatening behaviour may be a criminal offence.
