Canberra startup saves home sellers $18,000 each as it goes national
Lystr, a Canberra proptech startup, launched in NSW and Victoria this week after saving ACT home sellers more than $600,000 in commissions over 18 months.
Lystr is a platform that cuts out expensive real estate agents by letting home sellers manage their own sale with professional support. The startup launched in NSW and Victoria after a trial in Canberra where more than 35 homes sold and sellers saved an average of $18,000 each in commissions.
On a $1 million sale, a standard agent charges $22,000; Lystr's fixed fee of $3,995 saves more than $18,000. Director Chris Scullin said timing is right because national house sales are down 20.9 per cent, listings are up 19.1 per cent, and homes take 41 days to sell instead of 26.
The platform pairs sellers with licensed agents when needed and uses AI to answer buyer questions during open homes via QR code scan. Lystr property appraisals use a data-backed process that draws on recent comparable local sales, market trends and automated valuation models to set accurate prices.
