Friday the 13th prequel Crystal Lake now streaming on Stan

A24's prequel series about killer Pamela Voorhees lands on Stan Friday. Linda Cardellini gives a standout performance.

A24 has released Crystal Lake, an eight-episode prequel to Friday the 13th. The series focuses on Pam, the original film's serial killer, set in the 1970s after her son Jason drowns.

Linda Cardellini, who just won an Emmy for DTF St Louis, plays Pam with both rage and fragile sanity. The series delivers what fans want: campy chases with killer camera angles, creative practical effects, and the rule that sex gets punished by death.

Child actors Callum Vinson and Gwendolyn Sundstrom give strong turns as Jason and his friend. The show looks backward instead of forward.

It pauses key action scenes and repeats what the original film already showed instead of pushing the story ahead.
