Queensland government threatens legal action over council's homeless camp
Queensland's Economic Development agency is threatening legal action against Moreton Bay Council over its homeless camp.
A Queensland government agency has threatened the City of Moreton Bay with legal action. Economic Development Queensland says Wyllie Park's lawful purpose is green space, not a homeless camp.
The council set up the camp in August after losing a court case. In March, a court found the council had broken human rights law.
The council evicted homeless campers without giving them shelter. The camp was meant to run for 12 months.
It could hold up to 60 people and had toilets, lighting, CCTV and security. Housing Minister Sam O'Connor criticized the plan.
He said putting vulnerable people in one area would strain emergency services. Charity worker Beau Haywood fears the legal threat will lead to more evictions.
