AFL launches VR mental training for draft combine hopefuls
VR goalkicking simulation at 2026 Draft Combine trains emotional control and focus.
The AFL and Orygen Digital released a virtual reality goalkicking simulation at the 2026 Draft Combine. It helps young players manage pressure.
The tool recreates the intensity of elite competition and trains emotional control and focus during high-stakes moments. Orygen Digital's XR Innovation Lab and the AFL's mental health team developed it together.
They combined mental health knowledge with game technology. AFL Head of Mental Health Dr Kate Hall said the program gives young athletes mental skills.
They get them before entering professional football. The skills build resilience for everyday challenges too, not just sport.
They help young people handle stressful moments in any setting.
