Joanna Wietrzyk wins HYROX race after six-week break
Australian fitness racer Joanna Wietrzyk won the HYROX Hamburg event after stepping back from competition for six weeks.
Joanna Wietrzyk, 24, from Melbourne, won the HYROX Hamburg race in Germany on Saturday. Her first competition came after a six-week break.
In September, she competed in Beijing while suffering severe diarrhoea. The incident attracted widespread criticism on social media.
She finished first but then withdrew from that race. She gave up her points and issued a public apology.
The backlash hurt her deeply and she thought about quitting the sport for good. She stepped away from competition and social media to recover mentally and emotionally.
Her family supported her during this difficult time. Wietrzyk's win in Hamburg was strong.
She beat Lauren Weeks at the opening round of the 2026-27 HYROX Elite 15 Series.
