Newcastle aerobics team takes Spice Girls routine to world championships

Five Newcastle juniors will perform a Spice Girls routine at world aerobics championships in New Zealand next week.

Jessica Walkom, Lucy Henderson, Ella Bilton, Yesenia Fair and Jessie Thompson from Newcastle will compete on November 12-14 in Invercargill. The team's Spice Girls routine uses songs including 'Wannabe' and 'Spice Up Your Life', performed for one minute and 45 seconds.

The five dancers chose the iconic 1990s girl group theme because it connects with audiences and lets each dancer show her personality. The team won silver at the Australian championships and has trained 15 to 20 hours a week.

Three of the five have competed at world championships before. The Czech Republic are the main rivals, but the team says it has done the work.
